Texting sellers from Salesforce: 10DLC, consent and tools.
To text sellers from Salesforce in the US, you need a texting tool that logs to Salesforce, a registered 10DLC brand and campaign, and consent and opt-out fields every tool respects. Here are the tools, the registration steps, what CTIA’s guidelines say about lists, and how I set up the fields. This is not legal advice. Ready-made wording for each moment: seller follow-up message templates.
- Twilio: “Anyone sending SMS/MMS messages over a 10DLC number from an application to the US must register for A2P 10DLC.” Registration has a brand and a campaign. source
- CTIA’s guidelines say marketing texts need express written consent and senders “should not use rented, sold, or shared lists.” That matters for skip-traced lists. source
- Salesforce retired its standard SMS channels on February 14, 2026; US long code registration takes 1–4 weeks. source

What is 10DLC and do investors need it?
10DLC is the US system for business texting from regular 10-digit numbers. Twilio says anyone sending app-to-person texts over a 10DLC number to the US must register, including individuals. You register a brand (who is sending; standard brands need a business tax ID) and a campaign (the use case and your opt-in, opt-out and help messages). Registered traffic gets less filtering and more throughput. source
The Campaign Registry runs the registry behind it; brands register through a provider such as Twilio, not directly. source
What do the industry rules say about texting lists?
| CTIA guidance (May 2023) | What it means for a wholesaler |
|---|---|
| Marketing messages need express written consent | A seller who filled out your form and agreed to texts is different from a number on a list |
| Honor STOP and plain-language opt-outs, one confirmation, then nothing | Opt-out must be a field in Salesforce that every texting tool respects |
| Don’t use rented, sold or shared lists | Bulk-texting a purchased or skip-traced list conflicts with this guidance |
CTIA’s document is voluntary industry guidance, not a substitute for TCPA advice. Talk to a lawyer before you text lists. source
How should Salesforce store texting data?
- Consent: a checkbox plus date and source (“web form, October 2026”). No consent, no marketing texts.
- Opt-out: one field every tool checks before sending, set automatically when someone replies STOP.
- Every text on the timeline: calls and texts in one history, so the next rep sees the whole conversation.
- DNC and litigator flags from your skip-tracing provider, if it returns them. BatchData’s API returns DNC and TCPA litigator checks. source
